Dear Ms. Hewitt
I had the soul of a very ordinary person. Listening to you every day playing Bach my soul is improving fast. I think soon I will became an angel if I follow listening to Bach playing by you!!
I was to have seen you play the WTC in Los Angele last year, but i was detained by emergency heart surgery. I thought even at the time that I'd rather be spending the evening with you.
You've performed the WTC many times now, and I imagine your thoughts about the work--and perhaps others of your Bach works--have changed with experience. Are there any that you've considered re-recording? I'd love a record of your later thoughts.
One other question before you kick me out of your house: After your last solo Bach recording you wrote something to the effect that you;d now performed all the Bach you felt worth performing. Some artists, such as Aimard, seem to consider the Art of Fugue as necessary piano music. I'd be very interested in your thoughts on the Bach works that you chose NOT to record.
Thank you for the hours of pleasure your playing has brought me. I look forward to many years of listening. Everything you do is interesting, but the Bach--ah, the Bach!
Happy Birthday, Ms. Hewitt!
Wonderful Bach!
Sincerely, Serge
Dear Ms. Hewitt:
I just viewed the Hear Here! WTC excerpts and especially appreciated the Fazioli lower register and your application of rubato along with, of course, your superior performance. Thanks so much for making the concert available.
Best regards,
Larry
Angela, thank you once again (I got to thank you in person at the Bridgewater Hall on the 8th June - when you very kindly played for my birthday and signed your cd - Happy Birthday!!!!) for a truly mesmerizing two concerts - the memories of which will stay with me forever. The best birthday ever - thank you!
Thank you for coming Bach to Bristol after your sad bereavement. I enjoyed the contrasts between the two books, and felt that had we cleared all the seating from the main auditorium, we could have swayed to the memorable simplicity of prelude 12, which lived with me all the way home, and gigged with all the dances throughout the evening. Glorious. Thank you.
I wanted to add my many thanks for the numerous superlative recordings that you have released for our great aural pleasure. The Bach is indespensible but your releases of French repertoire has been wonderful. I deeply hope that some Debussy will be forthcoming. I think like Bach the wide diversity of interpretations is due to the need to have a holistic view of the work.
Dear Ms Hewitt,
your performances in Glasgow of Books I and II WTK were breath-taking in both the sheer physical and psychological undertaking which you achieved. You have set a benchmark which am I so glad to have witnessed!Bach at its most very best!!
With kindest regards, Charles Sanderson
Dear Mrs Hewitt
I am reading with jealousy other entries with impressions from Your WTC concerts. Its pity that Your WTC was not included in Israel Festival (We celebrate 60 years independence). I still remember Your concerts in Tel Aviv and Your encore (echo from French Overture) was the best live performance I heard in my first 50 years..
Last week I got the complete Buxtehude harpschicord music with Ton Koopman (wonderful set) but I could help not to think about performing these beatiful music on piano by propably best Bach pianist ...since 1750
Dear Miss Hewitt,
Your souvenir programme came in the mail yesterday and I have to tell you I read through it twice in the space of two hours (just as soon as I could open the envelope!) It's such a beautifully constructed programme and I absolutely love it! Having scoured literally hundreds of google hits (if not more) in the quest to learn more about your background and your musical viewpoints I learned more through your programme than I ever knew before. There is a wealth of biographical information inside that I wasn't aware of and so many photographs I'd never seen as well...I'm really quite fond of the pictures I'd never seen from your childhood and your early career. And then there's one insert that has had me riveted every time I open the book and it's that of the 23rd Goldberg variation from your own score...when I first saw it my eyes got wide and I actually said "Wow" (out loud!)
The story about your mother that you've included in the diary pieces section was so precious and moving and I love the sock photo!
I really must agree with Keith Shibuya who's programme contribution from Japan states "I cannot be the only one wishing to accompany Angela throughout her world tour..."
Thank you so very much for taking the time to put all of this together for all of us! It's much more than just a souvenir and I will cherish it always.
Wishing you sunshine, health and happiness,
Always,
Kenny
