Scarlatti Day in London CANCELLED

Sunday, January 31, 2021, 2:00 pm

Programme:
To be announced nearer the time

Performers:
Mahan Esfahani harpsichord
Angela Hewitt piano
Aline Zylberajch fortepiano

Inventive, exuberant, and endlessly entertaining, the keyboard music of Domenico Scarlatti is a treasure-trove of musical possibilities. Explore a genius without limits in this day-long celebration.

There are nearly as many ways to play Scarlatti as there are performers. Here we bring together three of his greatest living champions for a day sharing their passion: three radically different perspectives united by their joy in his boundless genius.

And it really is boundless. Scarlatti is a composer who defies classification as Classical or Baroque, radical or conservative; drawing inspiration equally from his Italian training and the sunlit sounds of his adopted Spain. Angela Hewitt plays him on the piano, Mahan Esfahani plays him on the harpsichord and Aline Zylberajch uses a fortepiano in a day of musical conversation, sparkling performance and some of the most life-affirming music ever written for keyboard.
