Dear Ms. Hewitt, Between Oxford Mills and Ottawa, the landscape is uncharacteristically brown; summer's heat has left patches of desolation where green dominated. "...A heap of broken images, where the sun beats, And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief..." The drive between country and city could be barren of music if it were not for Radio Canada. Although digital media can serve up notes pre-selected and mastered, it is the notes of surprise a the commute craves. Thunderstorms rolled through the capital yesterday and brought some relief. The morning drive was still brown, but the green that held vigil appeared refreshed, accompanied by a musical surprise served with grace... Dear Ms. Hewitt, Thank you very much for the recent wonderful events that you warmly hosted in Ottawa, Canada. I was privileged to view the screening of the film, “the 1985 Bach Piano Competition” in which you received the 1st prize. This film screening event took place on Sunday afternoon May 20th, 2012 in the salon of the Ottawa National Arts Centre. Equally enjoyable were your piano performances prior to – and following – the screening of the film, as well as the two interviews that also took place at that event. Lastly, might I add what a great pleasure it was for me to have met you once again. You very kindly autographed for me a copy of your Goldberg Variations CD – and listening to it that evening was simply spell-binding – how on earth is that level of pianism accomplished – or even possible!! Dear Ms Hewitt, I just attended your concert in Seattle. It was wonderful and so inspiring. I felt my breath was taken away by your first phrases of the Couperin, even though I had enjoyed it on your CD before. The surprise was the Rameau suite that was new to me. It is so vivid, and your reading of it was as moving as that of the Bach pieces. Your speaking voice was still weak. Hope you are getting plenty of rest. Please take care! Ms. Hewitt, I started back on my piano practice the day I heard you perform in Atlanta on April 29. What an inspiration! I was mesmerized. After hearing your program, I have plunged back into piano with renewed energy and commitment, "Claire de Lune" and the last movement Bach's Italian Concerto, Thank you for your artistry.

Angela, You remarked I was "first in line" after today's astounding performance at Spivey Hall. I'd like also to be first in line to share that experience with all of your fans. I have been collecting solo classical and jazz piano media for over thirty years, starting with Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert. I recently drove 15 hours RT to see Bruce Hornsby, worth every dollar and every minute. But nothing could have prepared me for today. As you mentioned, the venue was dead still and quiet throughout. I think we were all mesmerized. My eyes were glistening less than a moment into the performance, and I sure wasn't the only one shedding a tear or two. Once I recognized intermission, a long, pent-up burst of air escaped from me. I was disappointed that, seated at the far right of the hall, I couldn't see your hands, but that was serendipitous as I had a clear and direct view of your expressions as you played. It was spellbinding and gave me an addition to your art I will always have with me. The finish of Le Tombeau de Couperin was beyond my powers of description. I wanted to jump in the air with a feeling of triumph, like we golf fans do when our favorite player totally nails a shot few would ever even attempt. When you started "Clair de Lune," I shook my head in disbelief and wonder. It was the perfect wind down, and driving down to the venue, I had asked myself what I would most like to hear as an encore. "La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin," I decided. Guess I'll hear it for Christmas. 🙂 Thank you again for not only your music, but also for your graciousness and time you give us as we dearly appreciate you. best, Jon

Dear Ms. Hewitt, After repeated listenings of your baroque recordings (which I do daily) - your playing continues to inspire me to perfect my own playing - especially Bach. For that alone, I am deeply appreciative. Being my favourite pianist (and not just because I too am from Ottawa:) - it also gives be great pleasure to continue to enlarge my already extensive Hewitt CD collection. I would also highly recommend to all pianists and music lovers your DVD Bach lecture-recital - extremely informative and insightful on all aspects of baroque keyboard performance and correct interpretive stye. In closing Ms. Hewitt, I very much look forward to your forthcoming Ottawa concerts - and to thank you for the continued joy you bring to your audiences. Angela, Concerning your Ryanair horror story, I have never used Ryanair on principle because they are a joke as an organisation. It amazes me why,when they use all the tricks of the trade to humiliate their customers, that they still attract custom. Hopefully some will take note of your own experience. So pleased to know that you are recovering and again on the concert platform. Graham V. Cornwell. London.
