Bach: Partita No. 5 in G major
R. Schumann: Sonata No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22
F. Couperin: Movements from the Sixième Ordre
Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin

Angela Hewitt brings together four composers born into – or inspired by – the Baroque.

Bach’s Partita No.5 opens the programme with poised brilliance, followed by Couperin’s Sixième Ordre—music admired by Bach for its refinement and colour. Schumann’s restless Sonata No. 2 reflects a Romantic imagination shaped by Bach’s counterpoint, while Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin looks back to the French Baroque in his tribute to friends lost to the First World War.

“Hewitt’s playing radiates joy, wit and profound understanding.” THE SUNDAY TIMES
