The acclaimed Canadian pianist opens this year’s International Piano Series.
‘If you want the sheer joy of human creation and recreation, then go to a piano recital by Angela Hewitt. From the moment she steps sprightly on stage… you know that the hum of happiness is going to be there’ (The Times)
Alongside some of Scarlatti’s intricately written and high-spirited keyboard works, Hewitt offers two pieces that describe parting and reunion: Bach’s lively Capriccio on the Departure of his Beloved Brother and Beethoven’s Sonata Les Adieux.
Liszt’s Petrarch Sonata No.123 provides a poetic bridge towards the Sonata Après une lecture de Dante, one of this composer’s most dramatic and dazzling works.
