The rumoured tryst between Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann, herself a composer and wife of Brahms’ older mentor Robert Schumann, has long been a source of discussion and fascination. Each player in the alleged triangle is represented here through their music, culminating with Brahms’ triumphant First Symphony, famously hyped in its day as “Beethoven’s Tenth.”
