Summer 2022 is now over, and here we are beginning a new concert season. I was heartbroken to miss most of the 2022 Trasimeno Music Festival in Umbria due to getting covid right at that time, but at least I was able to do the final two performances and see my wonderful audience again. Bravo to all the pianists who stood in for me at such short notice! And thank you to all of you who attended from various corners of the world. You are the best!
I had some lovely concerts this summer in the UK, Finland, and at the Arsonore Festival in Graz, Austria. Now the season begins in earnest. On September 22nd I performed Bach, Mozart, and Chopin at London’s Wigmore Hall to a sold-out crowd, and it was also live-streamed on the internet. You can watch here. The recital will remain online for 30 days.
After visiting Finland (to play and conduct five Bach Concertos in one programme with the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra in Kokkola) and Denmark (the Ravel G major Concerto with the Copenhagen Philharmonic), I will depart for North America where I give concerts and masterclasses in Halifax, Duluth, Chicago (Northwestern University), Kingston ON, and as soloist with the Montreal Symphony and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York City, New Jersey, and Rockport MA.
I will also give a masterclass at the Royal College of Music, London on October 11th which is open to the general public.
Before the end of the year, I also perform recitals at The Sage, Gateshead (Newcastle), at St. John’s Waterloo in London, and will be soloist with the Prague Symphony in Mozart’s Concerto K503. All of these engagements you can find on the Performances page of this website.
I finish the year recording my second double-CD of Mozart Sonatas for Hyperion Records. The first one will be released on November 4th. You can preview it here.
And one final but very important thing: I was asked (on very short notice) to be the sole live performer on BBC Radio 3 in the two hours following the funeral and committal of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. A huge honour indeed! I was very touched. You can listen here (until October 18) from all around the world on the BBC Sounds website to the programme In Tune, hosted by Sean Rafferty.
Next year’s Trasimeno Music Festival will probably take place from something like June 28th to July 4th. We are working on the details now. You might also like to know that I will be performing a solo Bach recital in the famous La Fenice Opera House (the big hall) in Venice on June 11, 2022. If any of you would like to attend that concert (not yet announced), please let me know via the contact form on this website.
